USS Abner Read (DD-769) : ウィキペディア英語版
USS Abner Read (DD-769)

USS ''Abner Read'' (DD-769) was a planned United States Navy destroyer laid down during World War II but never completed. The ship was to be named for Abner Read (1821–1863), a United States Navy officer killed during the American Civil War.

''Abner Read'' was laid down by the Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation at San Francisco, California on 21 May 1944. The end of World War II in August 1945 resulted in the termination of the contract for her construction on 12 September 1946〔Per the ''Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships'' (at http://www.history.navy.mil/danfs/a1/abner_read.htm)〕 or 13 September 1946〔Per NavSource Naval History (at http://www.navsource.org/archives/05/769.htm)〕 She was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register on 13 September 1946 and scrapped on the building ways.
